Overview of the Simulation
My students were so excited to vote on the propositions, then realized that they were in elected positions and that their responsibility was to vote in favor of what their constituents wanted! They worked deals with colleagues, then asked if this was going to be a private ballot! Some wanted to cheat on their deals! The group discussions got detailed and intense, and then the whole group discussions were amazing! After voting in the House then passing to the Senate, and then vice versa, bills were sent to the President (teacher). Students couldn’t wait to find out if their bills were vetoed and they would get to try for the 2/3 vote. I don’t think they’ll ever forget the process of passing a law in the US!
